The Penang Travel Guide by the Penangites
Hello there friends!
This is my attempt in making a travel guide for Penang. This actually started with me wanting to prepare for my friends who are coming over. However, being a Penangite myself, sometimes you don't even know how to introduce or take your friends around Penang. I mean, it's home to me so things are pretty normal to me. The only places I would bring one person is the places that I personally like which isn't helping because this means, options are limited.
So, I posted a status and asked for my friends in Facebook to help me out, and this is the result!
*Take Note:
Blog will be divided into 4 parts.
PART 1 - LOCAL FOOD
I think everyone fights to claim they're the best in Penang so how do you choose?! Here's a list of places to go!
(and in no specific order)
1. Pulau Tikus Hai Beng Cafe
What's Good : Hainan Lor Mee and Curry Mee. AND their Western breakfast corner.
If you do go there for breakfast, say Tasha says hi! *I'd really appreciate it :)
Operation Time : Breakfast
Address : 216, Jln Burma, Penang, Malaysia, 10350 George Town, Malaysia (Assuming it's correct)
2A. Ah Leng Char Koay Teow
My personal and sister's personal favorite as well!
While the pricing may be a bit pricey, but the size of the prawns and the taste itself will make it all worthwhile
Operation Time : Go for lunch till noon
Address : Jalan Dato Keramat, Kampung Makam, 10150 Pulau Pinang, Malaysia
But if you can't make it, it's okay. There's one good one in the evening too!
2B. SIAM ROAD* Char Koay Teow
Uncle here has some skills. And you might need to wait a long time before it reaches you but promise! It's worth it.
Operation Time : Evening
Address : Drive on Anson Road and turn left into Siam Road. Uncle is on your right!
3A. Laksa @ Air Itam
Since I was a child, this shop has been recommended. It's not my personal favorite but I have to admit, it's pretty good
Operation Time : 11.15am - 7.30pm
Address : 1, Jalan Pasar 11500 Ayer Itam, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia
3B. Laksa opposite Penang Chinese Girls High School
This is another one of those good places that has their quality maintained from the days I was a primary student till today. Favorite! Their laksa is slightly sweeter and make sure to order Poh Piah to go with it as well!
Operation Time : Lunch time
Address : Jalan Gottlieb. Directly opposite the high school.
4. Pork Noodle @ Hon Kei Cafe
I don't remember trying this but I guess it's good since a few recommended this place. Let me know if you've tried this!

5. Penang Road Famous Teochew Cendol
This needs no introduction. Simple yet so delicious.
Operation Time : Afternoon till Evening

Of course, this is the original place, if you don't manage to get here, you can always visit the franchise stores in Prangin Mall and Queensbay Mall!
Also, don't get confused. It's the one on the right, not left! :/
6. Toasted Bread @ Toh Soon Cafe
The most simple Malaysian breakfast

Three places to try!
8A Prangin Mall 4/5th floor
Not sure which floor it is but it's in the middle atrium!
It's like a Lok-Lok kind of thing
Operation Time : Lunch till Dinner
8B Sunshine Lipsin
They used to be by the road BUT NOW THEY HAVE THEIR OWN SHOP >;D
Operation Time: Lunch till 4pm. Dinner: 6pm - 9pm
8C Sunshine Bayan Baru
I always argue with my friends between this sunshine and the other. YOU CAN ONLY LOVE ONE XD so tell me which is better kays? Then I'll tell you mine!
Operation Time : Lunch till Dinner
So, that's it for now. These are the local delights that we really love!
Always look for a Penang friend to take you, if not you'll get conned at some places *hehe
BUT, there are also Malay and Indian Food which are good
9 Banana Leaf Rice
Passions of Kerala
and there are two. So take your pick or try both!
