What You Want vs What They Want

When you think you have finally found yourself, and that you're comfortable with the way things are, someone, or something just has to happen to show, or tell you that

'HEY! You ain't getting away from this!'

What do I mean? Well, it's the battle of..

What You Want against What They Want

How often have you heard the phrase 'You must Win!'
 'You must do your best!'
 'Money matters more!'
'How can you Not care? You must be famous to achieve that goal!'
and many more phrases, but the worse I heard was,
'What is experience?
It doesn't matter if you do not win.'

That's the worse one can tell someone that has just started out working towards their dreams. No people, you do not just crush someone else's dreams.

Winning isn't Everything.

Someone needs to spread this theory. We can't always win every game, every argument, every competition. We don't always win in life, period. If you are thinking right now that you would like to correct me with my statement, save it. You probably lost once but have no recollection.

That's the thing. Everyone has had their fair share of loss and wins in life but we only choose to remember the wins. These people then continue to become snobby later on and look down upon others. No my friends, do not fall into their trap. Take their criticism but do not look down on yourself.

Stick with your goal and remind yourself that victory will come to you later in life. He or she may win in life now, but what about 10 years from now?

There was this one interview my friend went for and the interviewer asked,
'What you want is not what we want. You want experience, we want victory.'
But no one is born with amazingly great skills. There are people with potential, with passion and yet society only wants 'ready-made' people. These 'ready-made' people had the chance to be exposed at a younger age but what about the rest? They deserve a chance too!

So if you lose, and if you're told nonsensical statements as such, do not beat yourself up over it.
DO NOT TELL YOURSELF THAT YOU'RE A LOSER.
Do not back out just because you lost one game.
Do not give up on your dream just because one person said it would never happen.

I have amazing friends that are pursuing their dreams, especially in the art industry where people these days, really do not know how to appreciate art. These people never fail to inspire me with their determination. They go through so much hard work, deal with so much hatred and yet, they do not let these issues get to them. Be the person you want to be.
If experience is what you want, then go for it.

What you want may not be what they want, but it is your life. Your future. You shape your future with your own decisions. So be brave. It's tough to go against the current but I tell you, it will be worth it.

Love,
Tasha Lim
